Humanities as a pivotal learning experience

A key to understanding what it means to be human is to explore the development of human culture from ancient to modern times. The School of Liberal Arts coordinates a two-semester comprehensive course in humanities, established in 1965 by the Sisters of St. Francis, Oldenburg, Indiana.

Team-taught by faculty with expertise in the humanities, the course analyzes literature, art, architecture, music, philosophy, religion, science, and politics from the classical world through medieval, renaissance, romantic, and modern times. As part of their cultural experience, students attend symphony concerts, theater performances, art exhibits, museum displays, and foreign film series.

“With a liberal arts education, I learned how to read and think more critically and write more concisely.”

Studies in the liberal arts prepare students for life-long careers

The liberal arts core provides an interactive and mutually enriching curriculum that empowers students to become multi-dimensional critical and creative thinkers and life-long learners.

In conjunction with The Exchange, each department assists students in graduate school preparation and applications, job searches, resume writing, interview skills, and community networking.
