Layers: Development of Meaning Through Process, a Group Art Exhibit Coming to Marian University

by News Release | Mar 28, 2018

Senior Spring ExhibitionLayers: Development of Meaning Through Process, featuring artwork created by Visual and Creative Arts graduating seniors, Claire Thompson and Keith LaLand, will be on display in the Marian University Art Gallery located in the Michael A. Evans Center for Health Sciences from April 9-May 3, 2018. A reception of the exhibit will be held on Thursday, April 12, from 4-6 p.m. The exhibit and the reception are generously funded by the Talbot Street Art Fair Grant and are free and open to the public.

Layers: Development of Meaning Through Process initiates discussion of the layers of social, political, and natural subjects through the layering processes of a range of media including painting, sculpture, and collage. Claire Thompson, an art major with a concentration in art therapy from Westfield, Indiana, is inspired by nature, human consumption, and both natural and human destruction in her painting and sculpture work. Thompson’s sculptures evoke an abstract understanding of experiencing nature from a range of distances, allowing the viewer to interact with the medium and subject of each piece. Senior Keith LaLand is an art major who is inspired through the creative processes of painting and collage to break down and understand not only identity but also the historic, present, and future disharmony between cultures. LaLand’s ultimate goal is to challenge racism, sexism, and classism and where those negative perceptions come from.
