“This place is so friendly. Everyone knows each other and you can create great relationships and friendships. It’s like a family."

Jarrett also had a special experience at Marian University. During his sophomore year, he took the required Introduction to Theology course with Donna Proctor, assistant professor of theology. A few weeks into this class, Jarrett told a friend, “I’ve found what’s been missing my whole life.” Jarrett soon began the journey to become Catholic and was baptized into the Church in 2009. He credits Proctor with initiating his journey. “She made it real. I came to Marian University without a real faith. She pointed me in the direction of Jesus Christ and suddenly I felt complete.”

Dane Jarrett has always wanted to be a graphic designer. When looking for colleges during his senior year of high school, Marian University immediately caught his eye. “The graphic design program seemed really accessible and hands-on,” he says, “I felt like I could get a lot of experience.” Once he began classes, though, he fell in love with the Marian University community and liberal arts education.

In 2009-11, Jarrett also worked in the Office of Marketing Communications as a work-study student. In this job, he was able to really focus on his graphic design career. “I worked on the same kinds of projects that I would in a real graphic design job. I was able to make connections within the industry, get real-world experience, and hone my skills in working with clients.” He says the liberal arts foundation added to the skills he was gaining in his field, and that pushed him to be the best student he could be. Jarrett is pursuing a career in graphic design and hopes to work for a small business that is involved in community outreach and volunteer service.
